AVON — Chief Jeffrey Bukunt is pleased to announce that the Avon Police Department recognized one of the town’s dispatchers yesterday for her work in responding to a call of a child in distress.

During the Thursday, Aug. 12 Avon Board of Selectmen meeting, Chief Bukunt presented dispatcher Alison Ning with a Lifesaving Commendation for her work in assisting a resident whose child was in distress. The meeting was attended by Avon first responders, residents and friends and family of dispatcher Ning.

On Wednesday, July 7, dispatcher Ning was working a shift at the Avon Police Department when a 911 call came in from a resident, McKenna Noble, whose infant child was choking. Drawing from her experience and training, dispatcher Ning kept Noble on the line while quickly deploying first responders of the Avon Police and Fire departments to the scene.

Dispatcher Ning provided emergency medical instructions to Noble, who was able to successfully spot and safely remove an object from the infant’s airway. Dispatcher Ning continued with providing medical instructions until first responders arrived on scene.

Members of the Noble family were on hand at Thursday’s meeting, expressing their gratitude for dispatcher Ning’s efforts during the call. This was the first time that the family had met dispatcher Ning in person since the incident.

“Dispatcher Ning showed calm and steady resolve, aptitude and skill during this highly stressful call, and her actions likely prevented a tragedy,” Chief Bukunt said. “The professionalism she displayed throughout the duration of this call reflect her commitment to our citizens, and on behalf of all the first responders in the Town of Avon we express our sincere gratitude for her efforts that day.”
