AVON — Chief Jeffrey Bukunt reports that the Avon Police Department arrested a man following a vehicle pursuit last Tuesday evening.
MARVENS JEAN-JACQUES, AGE 25, OF BROCKTON, was arrested and charged with:
- Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Failure to Stop for Police
- Operating on a Suspended License (for Operating Under the Influence)
- Possession of an Open Container of Alcohol
- Speeding
- Marked Lanes Violation
- Uninspected Vehicle
On Tuesday, Jan. 17, at 11:37 p.m. in the area of Memorial Drive, Avon patrol officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a 2008 Nissan Altima after observing that the vehicle was allegedly without an inspection sticker. The driver — later determined to be JEAN-JACQUES — allegedly failed to stop for police and a pursuit ensued at speeds exceeding the posted limit.
Police terminated the pursuit across the Brockton line on North Montello Street out of concern for the safety of other motorists and the general public. During the pursuit, officers recorded the vehicle’s registration.
Through a subsequent investigation conducted by Avon Police Officers Stephen Stenstrom and Jeffrey Donovan, with the assistance of Brockton Police, officers located JEAN-JACQUES in his vehicle parked on Kenneth Avenue in Brockton a short time later. He was arrested on scene without incident and was transported to the Avon Police Department for booking.
During a search of the vehicle, officers located an open container of alcohol. Police also determined that JEAN-JACQUES was allegedly driving with a suspended license.
“I commend the officers involved for their hard work and diligence, which led to a swift arrest in this case. I also thank Brockton Police for their assistance in helping us bring this matter to a conclusion,” said Chief Bukunt.
JEAN-JACQUES was arraigned in Stoughton District Court on Wednesday, Jan. 18. He is expected to return to court on Tuesday, Feb. 7.
These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
