AVON — Chief Jeffrey Bukunt is pleased to announce that, in partnership with the Avon Police Patrolman’s Association and the Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism, the Avon Police Department will be participating in the Autism Police Patch Program throughout the month of April this year.

Through the program, which is meant to raise awareness of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), Avon Police will be offering a special patch for free to members of the public who donate $10 or more to the Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism.

This is the Avon Police Department’s first time participating in a police patch program for social awareness and the first time partnering with the Flutie Foundation. It coincides with the month of April, which is celebrated as Autism Awareness Month worldwide.

“We’re excited to partner with the Flutie Foundation this year,” said Chief Bukunt. “They do so much to directly provide help to people and families with autism. Creating a community of autism awareness and acceptance is very important to the people we serve in our town.”

Donors who would like to receive a patch can visit the Avon Police Department at 86 Fagan Drive. Donors may also send a self-addressed stamped envelope (including your return address) along with a check or money order for $10 or more, made out to the Avon Police Relief Association:

Anyone who wishes to obtain a patch but who is unable to pay by personal check may reach out directly to Special Projects Manager Sheri Carney at 508-583-6677 or email AutismAwareness@avon-ma.gov.

Through this campaign, the Avon Police Department is hoping to be able to donate $2,000 to the Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism.

The Flutie Foundation provides financial assistance for families caring for a loved one with autism and educates the public about autism spectrum disorder. To learn more, click here.
