First positive case of COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

The Avon Board of Health has been informed of an Avon resident that tested positive for COVID-19. This is the first positive case in Avon. The Health Agent has been in contact with the positive case and has traced all close contacts of the case. The contacts have been notified and are following CDC guidelines for self-quarantine.

Currently, there are 129 positive cases in Norfolk County and 1159 positive cases in Massachusetts.

With increased testing capabilities of COVID-19, Avon will likely see more positive cases. It is vital to maintain social distancing, limit exposure to others, avoid crowded places, stay at home as much as possible and to continue handwashing and personal hygiene efforts in order to slow the spread of this disease.

The Avon Health Agent continues to work with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) who is working closely with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other Federal agencies.

The Avon Board of Health strongly advises that anyone who feels ill, remain at home and call their primary care provider to see if they meet the criteria for COVID-19 testing. Symptoms include fever, cough and shortness of breath. Before visiting your doctor, call ahead to let them know about your symptoms.
