AVON —  Fire Chief Robert Spurr, Department of Public Works Director William Fitzgerald and Town Administrator Gregory Enos are pleased to announce that the Town of Avon and the Avon Fire Department have purchased two new vehicles, utilizing funds previously approved by voters at Town Meeting.

The Avon Fire Department has purchased a new fire engine, a 2021 Pierce Enforcer. This replaces a 1988 E-One engine that had been used for several years.

The engine was purchased with funds from ambulance billing of insurance companies, and is from the Pierce Manufacturing “stock truck” program. The program allows the Avon Fire Department to purchase an engine that fulfills all of the department’s needs with an affordable price and quick delivery.

“We are so grateful to have the opportunity to purchase a new engine for our department that will provide the best possible service to Avon residents,” said Chief Spurr. “We look forward to 20-plus years of service from this new engine.”

Additionally, the Town of Avon has purchased a new dump truck, a Ford F-550. This truck will replace a 2004 diesel truck that was facing several repairs.

“The 2004 diesel was in need of constant maintenance and was getting more and more costly,” said Director Fitzgerald. “This new vehicle will be a great cost-saving measure, and will allow the town to provide the best service possible to our residents.”

The town now has three small dump trucks, which will be used year round by the Department of Public Works. The new truck also has a plow and removable sander for winter storms.

Funding for the purchase of the new fire engine was approved by Town Meeting voters in 2021, while funding for the purchase of the new DPW dump truck was approved by Town Meeting voters in 2022.

“We are extremely grateful to the residents of Avon for approving these two capital purchases at Town Meeting, and we look forward to our fire department and DPW putting the vehicles to good use for years to come,” Town Administrator Enos said.
