AVON — Town Administrator Gregory Enos is pleased to announce that the Town of Avon has hired Jane Carthas to serve as the new Director of the Avon Council on Aging.
Director Carthas has been serving as the interim COA Director since June 17. During that time she has worked to reopen the COA during the COVID-19 pandemic as well as working both behind the scenes and with members as activities and membership has continued to grow.
She has shown the willingness to help out where needed, including helping out in the kitchen to make sure luncheons are able to continue in the absence of a cook.
From 2013-2021 Director Carthas served as a volunteer coordinator with the COA, responsible for interviewing potential volunteers and monitoring volunteer performance, organizing events and planning outings for seniors, working with neighboring COA facilities, managing drivers for the Meals on Wheels program, overseeing scheduling and more.
She also established a book club and walking group for COA members.
“I have developed a strong relationship with senior members during the past eight year with the COA and am very excited to be assuming the role of Director,” Director Carthas said. “It is those relationships that I value the most, as well as those I have fostered with the staff, Board of Directors and the greater Avon community. I am excited to see our activities and membership grow as we continue to serve the needs of our seniors.”
The Town of Avon was excited to promote someone from within to fill the position of COA Director.
“Jane has hit the ground running in her new role, and her past experiences with the COA have proven to be highly valuable as she settles in,” Town Administrator Enos said. “We have always placed a high level of importance on understanding and recognizing the needs of the seniors in our community, and are confident that Jane will build upon the strong foundation already in place at the COA moving forward.”
