AVON — Town Administrator Gregory S. Enos and Health Agent Kathleen Waldron wish to provide an update regarding a presumptive positive case of COVID-19 at Sammy K’s Barber Shop.

This week a presumptive positive case of COVID-19 was identified at Sammy K’s Barber Shop at 145 Main St., and contract tracing is being conducted for anyone who may have come into contact with the presumptive positive case from Tuesday, Nov. 10 through Thursday, Nov. 19.

The Town of Avon has consulted with a state epidemiologist, and as a result of testing and ongoing contact tracing it has been determined that the risk of COVID-19 transmission to visitors of Sammy K’s between Nov. 10-19 is low.

“Fortunately, the risk of exposure to COVID-19 in this situation appears to have been low, and we are thankful to our residents, Sammy K’s, and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health for helping us conduct contact tracing and thoroughly examine this situation,” Town Administrator Enos said.

Those who visited the business during this time frame do not need to quarantine, but are advised to continue to monitor themselves for symptoms of COVID-19 for 14 days after their visit. To review symptoms of COVID-19 from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, click here.

Massachusetts’ Stop the Spread testing initiative remains ongoing, and Avon residents are encouraged to get tested regardless of symptoms in order to better know their COVID-19 status. The closest Stop the Spread testing sites are located in Brockton and Randolph. For information about testing availability nearby through the Stop the Spread initiative, click here.

Any resident with questions or concerns is asked to contact the Avon Board of Health at 508-588-0414 ext. 1016, or email kwaldron@avon-ma.gov. To view video updates on Avon’s public health data relating to COVID-19, visit the Town’s YouTube page by clicking here.
