AVON — Town Administrator Gregory S. Enos and Health Agent Kathleen Waldron report that a presumptive positive case of COVID-19 has been identified at a private business in the Town of Avon.

The case involves Sammy K’s Barber Shop, located at 145 Main St. in town. In keeping with Department of Public Health regulations, the Avon Board of Health will be conducting contact tracing for anyone who may have come into contact with the presumptive positive case.

The Town is asking any individual who has been to the business during the dates of potential exposure — Tuesday, Nov. 10 to Thursday, Nov. 19 — to contact the Board of Health at 508-588-0414, ext. 1016.

The Town will be sending out a CodeRED alert to all residents informing them of the presumptive positive case and advising them of contact tracing protocols.

Massachusetts’ Stop the Spread testing initiative remains ongoing, and Avon residents are encouraged to get tested regardless of symptoms in order to better know their COVID-19 status. The closest Stop the Spread testing sites are located in Brockton and Randolph. For information about testing availability nearby through the Stop the Spread initiative, click here.

“The decision to let the public know about this potential exposure is out of an abundance of caution, and if anything changes, additional messaging will be sent out,” Health Agent Waldron said. “Anyone who was at this establishment between the listed dates is encouraged to quarantine and to be tested for COVID-19 four or five days from your visit.”

Any resident with questions or concerns is asked to contact the Avon Board of Health at 508-588-0414 ext. 1016, or email kwaldron@avon-ma.gov. To view video updates on Avon’s public health data relating to COVID-19, visit the Town’s YouTube page by clicking here.
