AVON — Town Administrator Gregory S. Enos is pleased to announce that Christine Quinn has been chosen as the new director of the Avon Council on Aging.
Director Quinn started in her new role on Oct. 5. In this role, she will be responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all Council on Aging services and activities, implementing policies and procedures developed by the Council on Aging and Town Administrator and performing key public relations for the department while responding to questions and concerns.
“I am very excited about starting this new position with a great team working at the Council on Aging, and have really enjoyed developing programs and working with everyone so far,” Director Quinn said. “I look forward to getting to know the members of the Avon community, especially the seniors in town, and to develop programs and events that senior residents will find enjoyable both during the ongoing pandemic and after.”
Director Quinn previously worked as the Director of Council on Aging for the towns of Norfolk, Westport and Stoughton, and served as the Coordinator of Volunteer Services for Weymouth Elder Services. She has experience implementing the “My Senior Center,” a state-of-the-art software program, for her communities; managing a staff of full-time and part-time employees; and developing a variety of programs for seniors and disabled individuals.
Director Quinn holds a master’s degree in education for counseling psychology and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Massachusetts Boston.
Director Quinn and the Avon Council on Aging plan on continuing popular programs such as the meals program they offered during the height of the pandemic that offered meals to Avon and surrounding towns’ senior residents. She is also hoping to provide more programs through virtual conferencing programs such as Zoom as well as local cable television so that senior residents can access services from their homes during the COVID-19 pandemic.
She is also looking forward to continuing to grow the Council on Aging and to make it more well-known in the community by providing programs and speakers that will attract the younger senior audience.
“We are thrilled to have Christine on board at the Council on Aging, and look forward to her bringing her many years of experience and expertise to the position,” Town Administrator Enos said. “We are proud to be able to offer such a wide range of services and programs to the senior population here in Avon, and it is our hope that, under Christine’s leadership, we will be able to expand upon those services even more in the future.”
