Avon raised to “Red” Higher Risk Community

Based on the average daily cases per 100,000 residents, each city or town in Massachusetts has been designated as a higher risk (red), moderate risk (yellow), or lower risk (green) community. Communities with fewer than 5 cases are not given a designation (unshaded/gray).

After many weeks of having less than five (5) positive cases, Avon has seen an increase in positive COVID-19 test results. Currently, we have had seven (7) positive cases since September 16, 2020 which makes the Town of Avon a higher risk community (red).

For an explanation of the color coded risk levels and why Avon jumped from not having a designation to a higher risk community, watch the most recent video at: https://youtu.be/pIRE4LJog_w

While seven (7) positive COVID-19 cases is a small number, it is not the time to let up on the restrictions we have had in place. It is vital to continue to practice social distancing, wear face coverings, wash your hands and avoid large gatherings or house parties.

At this time, it is unclear when Avon can move to Step 2 of Phase III. More information will follow in the coming days.
