Parade Scheduled for Saturday, May 28 at 11 a.m.

AVON — Town Administrator Gregory S. Enos and the Avon VFW would like to invite the entire community to the 2022 Avon Memorial Day parade.

This year’s parade will take place on Saturday, May 28. The date is a change from previous years, in which the parade was typically held on the Sunday before Memorial Day.

This year’s parade will start at 11 a.m. at St. Michael’s Church at 87 North Main St. and will proceed past the newly renovated Avon Fire Station, down Route 28, by the Avon Town Offices (which will have seating for seniors wishing to watch the parade) and will conclude at the Avon VFW.

At the conclusion of the parade, there will be a cookout with hamburgers, hot dogs, sausages, chips and potato salad. Ice cream and juice boxes will be available for children. All parade participants and spectators are welcome to attend the cookout at the VFW.

The parade participants will include the New Liberty Jazz Band, the Cosmo Legion Band of Brockton, the Old Colony Model T Club, the local Girl Scouts and Avon Youth Baseball, and many others.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Memorial Day parade has not been held for the past two years, and the Town looks forward to resuming this annual tradition.

“I encourage all of our residents to come out and pay tribute to veterans who have died while serving their country during our annual Memorial Day parade,” Town Administrator Enos said. “I also would like to acknowledge all of the hard work of those who have worked to plan this year’s parade as the town resumed this important community tradition, in particular Joseph Bernardo of the Avon VFW, Call Fire Department Captain Matthew Doucet, and Board of Selectmen/Town Administrator Executive Assistant Shanna Faro.

Town Offices will be close in observance of Memorial Day on Monday, May 30.
